Studio Etiquette
Moksha Yoga Winnipeg has two locations in the city, offering yogi's over 100 classes each week. Our Central Donald Street location is home to a beautiful 1,550 sq foot heated studio, and a smaller non-heated studio on the mezzanine level. Our South Waverley Street location houses a huge hot room with beautiful natural light, along with a vibrant Calm Unity Cafe and an on site childcare centre.
Our men's and women's change rooms feature filtered rain-head shower heads, securable lockers, environmentally conscious toiletries and drinking water filtration systems.
MYW has a yoga and fitness boutique that retails a wide range of quality products for yoga, fitness and leisure. We also sell great gift items and offer gift cards in any denomination.
Our studio was built to sustain a safe, healthy and environmentally conscious setting. Guided by our own beliefs, we have strived to create as green a space as possible.
At our 1090 Waverley Location we now have an on-site childcare space. It is for those parents who have children that are not in school yet. It is open during the week, so now you can practice too. With this said, it is a small space with limited capacity. It is important you understand how it works:
- You must call to pre-register your spot - we only have 5 spots per class [ 415-6804 ]
- Age Range is 6 months to 5 yrs. old
- Open 9am - 2 PM during weekdays only
The more fresh oxygen you breathe in, the more you're body will dextoxify. At Moksha Yoga Winnipeg, we have taken great measures to ensure good, clean air circulation throughout the entire space. The radiant heating panels used to heat the hot studio are silent, energy efficient, and provide much cleaner air than forced air systems. The studio's 18 foot high ceilings also allow for greater air circulation.
Our hot studio is heated by radiant heating panels. Instead of heating the air, radiant heat warms objects, so compared with a forced-air heating system, radiant heat is far more energy efficient at producing the desired temperature (39c to 41c)
We chose to use cork floors for many reasons. From an environmental perspective, cork floors do not damage the trees. Cork is a natural product that comes from the bark of the trees only. The trees are simply peeled instead of being cut and then the bark grows back without damaging the tree.
From a health perspective, Chiropractors and other health practitioners know cork as a flooring alternative for those with low back pain (think Birkenstocks) because cork is a natural shock absorber. Also, because it is harvested from the exterior of a living tree, cork contains natural anti-microbes that prevent bacteria from entering the floor.
We use Nature Clean and Citrasolve products to clean the entire studio. The products are hypo-allergenic (contain no perfumes, dyes, formaldehyde preservatives, ammonia or other common allergens). They are plant based and thus can biodegrade very efficiently.
Between regular washings, we keep our rental mats clean with Benefect, a disinfectant made of Thyme extract. Sensible Life Products is the family owned company that makes this great product. It has been approved by both Health Canada and Environment Canada as the first and only 100% natural disinfectant. Commercial disinfectants contain poisons which damage our immune systems. We are proud to use this amazing and friendly anti-fungal product.
Water filters are that filter out chemicals such as chlorine, are installed on all of the showers. We also have filtered drinking water available so you can fill your water bottles.
Most paints contain VOC's (volatile organic compounds), which once in the atmosphere, react with other chemicals to form ozone, a major component of pollution. Even paints that start out VOC free take on some VOCs when colorant is added. 'Lifemaster 2000' the paint used in the studio is completely VOC free, including all colorants. Since much of a Moksha class is focused on breathing, this choice is also optimal from a health perspective.
